Over skimming?

Is there such a thing?

Here's the story.....my daughter bought a 55g tall and I had an old coral life 65g skimmer but after an hour of messing with it it doesn't seem to want to bubble...well I just happened to have an aquaeuro skimmer rated for 200g...is it sage to add this to her system or should we find a smaller skimmer?
