Overflow help

Ok I recently set up a cube tank and it has a built in overflow. It already has three holes drilled in the top of the standpipe but it still makes a very loud gurgling sound and shots air bubbles into the tank. Any ideas on how to quite down the standpipe?

So many things to look for here......Are you saying you have three drilled holes in the overflow box or three holes that you drilled in the standpipe?

Are you using a standard kit for the overflow? There are many things that can create grugling. Can you shoot some pics of the overflow and under the cabinet. I have found that gravity must take place with your plumbing, another word all water must flow downward to keep things moving into the sump.
Also is your exit pipe inot the sump under water? This will cause gurgling.

Yes there are three holes drilled in the top of the standpipe and ya the drain pipe exits into the sump Under the water line. Yes it's a. Standard overflow kit with a straigh downward shot into the sump.

Place the exit just above the water line. Is the water going into a filter sock? I would place the exit to the drain above the water line and drain into a filter sock. It will still make some noise but not as much. Yoy could also turn down the flow on the return pump via ball valve to reduce the flow through the sump. This will qiest it alittle also. This will also allow for much better skimming because of more contact time with water in the sump.

There will be noise, just part of the hobby.

Now, since you only have one overflow box I would also reccomend a Herbie Overflow design. It is a 100% quiet design. I installed it on my tank but I have two overflows and found it impossible to dial in 100% and it made me very nervouse. However I believe its really easy on 1 overflow.

That will require you to replum the whole system though basically top to bottom.
