Overflow question????

I have an Oceanic 44 gal (30x18x20) drilled for two 1" bulk heads 4" from the top and 5" in from the edge. I have a little giant PCL-025 return pump that will flow ~300-400 gph. What is the best way to do an overflow?

In that sort of a setup, I think I'd do a coast to coast overflow, two pieces of acrylic/glass with teeth cut all the way along the top one. Put short elbow on the bulkheads and top them with strainers.

On that setup, I would personally just add strainers to the bulkheads and then run your tubing down the back of the outside of the tank. No overflow needed but keep in mind your going to need a big enough sump because that tank is going to drain down to right under those bulkheads when the return pump is off.

Coast to coast is a great option as well.

Coast to coast woudl be a good idea. but how are you planning on getting the water back into the tank? If it were me, I would make one an overflow and the other the return. no pipes over the top of the tank that way! Similar to how I was going to pipe the 225 whe I got it drilled. I am doing 2x 2" on the overflow side, and the I was giong to add 2 more bulkheads to do the returns. all under the water. now, if you go that route. make sure you have a way to add a small bit of tubing to stop the siphon when the pump shuts off. I was jsut giong to drill a small hole in the pipe and run a piece of arline tubing back over to my overflow.

The problem with one overflow, one return is the chance for blockage and overflowing. I've had it happen on my 90 before, I immediately replumbed and went to two drains.

One thing I didn't think about at all is noise, I never had to consider the noise in my fish room, if you do, different overflows might be a better option.

Look at the design of the glass holes overflows. those are pretty slick and from what Ive heard. are very quiet. Ill have mine here on wednesday.

A float switch connected to your return pump will prevent that everytime. :spin3:

the return water will be going over the back wall. I like the flexibility of not being tied down. I will be using both bulkheads for flow. I was thinking I might do a coast to coast ninus 2" on each side for the return lines. I liked the way brandons could be used as a refugium of sorts.
