Overflow. ?

Just wondering what type of overflow people without drilled tanks are using and their pros and cons.

I bought mine on ebay item number 330293164697 is what it looks like.. It works great. I replaced the quietflow I purchased off ebay w/ it. The quietflow has a utube and over time it would build up bubbles and slow down flow. The new has a pump to keep suction and is slimmer. I purchased an aqualifter for the pump. I have never had a problem out of it. Now I have two one on each side of my 150.

How is the noise on a CS overflow? I have a U-Tube setup right now and its not to bad but i hate dealing with it. Was wondering how much you have to do maintenance on it.

i got one off of ebay, looked like a know off of a cpr, works great and its quiet, i think it was 40-60 bucks

They make very little noise. You can get a baffle, several types, but I don't use them. The only maintenance is to keep it clean, not a major problem, and make sure the air line and connections stay free of algea. I use black airline, so I don't have too much of a problem with algea. Just the little connector in the top of the box where the airline connects. Clean it out once a month with a pipe cleaner. On another note, you have to drill a small hole in the return to prevent it allowing water to drain back to your sump when the power goes off.

Also the boxes from Aquatrader don't come with a pump, but you can get a aqualifter for around $10 if you shop around.

I have a reef ready also, I do prefer it, but if that's not an option, then the hang on overflow work well enough.

i looked at doing one, but for only $65 from glass-holes.com for the whole package (overflow box, bulkhead w/ anti-siphon, & glass drill bit), i figured it was worth it to just go on & drill it

I'd love to drill, but two of my tanks are tempered all around, so I'll be putting overflows on at least the nice one to sump the heaters, skimmer, refugium, and to get a little more flow/aeration in the tank.


Thanks for the link mltmtascp, that's much better than the LFS near me selling a 250GHP setup (w/ Aqualifter) for $103, on sale, normally $135.

I would like to try one out. I got a u-tube right now and it works fine but i am just looking for something a little less noisy.

I have a u tube style overflow sitting in the garage, $20 takes it home. not sure if this is what you guys are looking for though. If it is pm me, Ill take frag trades too!
