Overskimming 20G Nano ... with Remora Pro?

I plan on purchasing a Finnex brand 20g nano with the refugium and was wondering if I could use my Aqua C Remora Pro as the skimmer ... I would probably downgrade the Mag 3/5? pump I was using on my 55g reef to a Maxijet 1200.

My questions is twofold...

1) Will the Remora Pro fit on the back fine?

2) Can I overskim my tank?

Thanks!!!

I don't believe there is such a thing as overskimming ... if there is nothing to skim, the skimmate will never make it to the collection cup; however there is always something to skim. By having good flow you ensure that nothing settles in your tank and it helps the skimmer work more efficiently.

Yes there is such i thing as over skimming. The whole purpose of a skimmer is to remove organics out of the water. Now that has been said What do you thing corals feed on? Phytoplankton, Zoo-plankton ETC.........Which are what organics. Now if you remove to much What do the corals eat? Nothing they will starve to death unless your feeding them something like phyto live of some other coral food with will be skimmed out very quickly unless you shut down your skimmer for several hour to let them have a chance to feed. Now why would you go through all of this extra work when you could just avoid it by skimming less out.

Thanks to all for the advice. After talking with Ken over at Finnex I have decided to delay my purchase of the 20g and go with a 30g tank that has yet to be release by Finnex.

I got this reply from Ken ...

30g glass M-Tank with refugium setup won't be available until 10/25/06. The lighting available with T5 HO 24W x 4 + LED or HQI 150W + T5 HO 24W x 2 + LED.

How sweet...Now I think I feel pretty comfortable with at least trying to go with the Remora Pro on a 30g. Otherwise, its two options...

1) Nano chiller
2) Deltec HOB filter MC300

I know that these are pricey but my wife "owes" me a tank as I refused to wear an engagement ring (some Italian tradition where the man gets a big gold ring)...I said I wanted a tricked out tank instead. Haha~

I plan on getting a Reefkeeper module to run the tank so I could set the skimmer on a timer to run only during the day (when I am not viewing the tank) if the tank seems to be "overskimmed".

That would also eliminate the slight hissing noise that the skimmer makes when it is operational.

How would you know if you are overskimming though? If I fed the tank heavy and dosed with proper additives wouldn't that just result in more skimmate and happy, fed tank occupants?

I agree ... and that is what I do because I have a mix of Softies & Zoas and a few LPS and SPS
