Paint back of tank?

Has anyone had experience with painting the back glass of the tank? I have the prototypical black background paper there now, but many times get a few drips of water between the paper and the tank, then when it dries it leaves the salt trace which looks awful. Thinking of painting it. Anyone done this???

I prefer limo tint. But painting it would probably be cheaper & easier. I just prefer the limo tint & ease of removing it if I wanted to.

I used limo tint on my 29. It's great for smaller tanks you can move yourself (had to lay the 29 down on the ground to get a good fit and placement of the tint material). For larger tanks stick with paint, and black at that.

I painted both of mine with krylon fusion blue spray paint. It's easy just put on many light layers and you will be ok.

Vinyl sticker here, I just used a piece 24" wide by 5' long. Super easy to remove and 100% no light showing through.

i just painted mine, works good . just went to wally world and got there 97 cent can of black, took 4 cans for my 150. just clean with vinegar and then i used a razor blade and scraped the glass and then painted looks good. oh pick up a roll of the blue painter tape while your there:wavehand:

I painted the back of my 75 with a roller and a pint of black paint, it takes a lot of layers to make it totally opaque. If I did it again I would probably spraypaint it.

i just painted our new 375 gal tank.used acrylic black latex and a 4inch sponge roller worked great.it took 4 coats with about 30min or so of dry time between coats.only used about half a quart..

I was watching a video on efficiancy in lighitng etc.. If you do the blue or black background you actually loose light par toward the back of the tank.
It has to do with the reflective properties of the glass.

I use paint myself if I want a tank back to be black.

i have painted all of mine with flat black spray paint... i have removed it a couple in the past with a flat razor blade with no residual... but that is me... 97 cents a can at walmart :)

+1 with the Krylon fusion paint. I used the blue on my sump/fuge...however i rolled the display tank though in retrospect i wish i would have used the Krylon fusion paint on it.

I did not paint the back of mine because in 6 months to a year the back is going to be covered in Coralline growth anyways.
Just My two cents..

I used self-adhesive vinyl. No salt creep, and is removeable in case I move and want a different viewable setup. I think mine was made by Oceans Vision.

I had some cheap black paint in the garage so i used a roller to paint the back. Wish i used the vinyl tho cuz now id rather it be see through and i cant take off the paint.

Just go to wallyworld get flat black tape off what you dont want to get paint on and there you go, I have done it several times, works perfect, just watch for runs, but it needs to be flat
