Painting tank and stand

I want to paint the back of my tanka nd the stand black. it is light oak now. What paint would you suggest to use?? how many coats??

I thought I read people use paint called krylon? Or was it krylon based? Anyway, 3 coats should give a nice paint on there so no light would shine through it. I think maybe krylon was safe to use inside the tank for overflows or something, you could probably use just indoor paint.

if you're painting the back of your tank, you can just your regular old black, (matted finish) spray paint. it's probably gonna take you a few cans of paint just for the back. even when you think you've covered all the spots, and the whole entire back looks solidly black, light will still shine through on a few spots. you really have to get several nice coats on there. use a light to check it.

as for the stand, wood has a tendency to absorb the paint, so slap a coat or two of primer on there, and then just paint it. if you want it glossy, then use a high and/or semi gloss paint, or matted if you like.

I used 1 qt of black latex to paint the backs of a 37g, 75g, 125g, and 150g. Latex is very easy to scrape off if you decide to change the color later.
