Pairing Clown Fish in the Aquarium

Hello All,

Currently upgrading 29 gal to a 75 gal. These are the fish I have now which I will be transporting: Maroon Clownfish, Flameback Angel, Yellow Watchman Goby, Six Line Wrasse and Scooter Blenny. My question is if when I transfer the fish to the new tank and I introduce another Maroon Clown will they be receptive to each other and pair up? If so will there dominance be such once paired that they would become aggressive with other tank mates? I currently have the Maroon clown in a Condylactus Anemone. When moving to the 75 I plan on putting in a long tentacle in place of the condy. Is this a good anemone for them? Thanks.

how big is the maroon now? GSM are tough on nems, and you should get her a lta atleast twice her size. but as for a male partner, smaller the better for trying to pair them up. she most likely will beat on him for a while, but i wouldnt intervein unless you see some ripped fins.
i never had an issue pairing gsm at all. but to help the pairing go easier, i would add the new one to the new tank for a few days and let it get cozy in the lta. then toss momma in. usually doing it this way makes it easier to pair since she isnt already terrotorial already.

I totally second the above. Make sure you get a clown that is smaller than the one you've got and preferably one that is in a tank with others of his own kind. This way he wouldn't be the dominant one and wouldn't have turned into a female.

I'm working on paring some right now and yes, you definitely need to be prepared for some fighting (more like bullying). Also keep an eye out for what looks like a seizure from the smaller one. That is good. It is a demonstration of submission.

I have heard that sometimes maroons can become more territorial and aggressive after they have paired and have a host. But I wouldn't let it stop you from trying. It's so interesting!

I used to breed these and they are some of the hardest to bond. Be prepared that it could ultimately end in death for the new maroon. I would encourage you to rehome the maroon you have and buy a pair already bonded. Or go with a different clown that are less aggressive.
