pairing dwarf angels

Has anyone had any luck pairing a pair of Coral Beauties? I have one now that might have 1-2 left to grow (assume to be female at that point). I've heard a few things like just finding a smaller fish and hoping for the best to using a clear container for a while so the fish become accustomed to each other. If you have any ideas from pairing other dwarfs I'm sure it would help as well. Thanks.

been reading and most of my questions have been answered by reading posts about flame angels but i am still wondering about sexing CBs from coloration. I'm assuming that once the thicker gold striping starts coming in that the fish has turned male? At that point it is just a search for an unturned female?

They will switch from male to female or female to male. I paired Potters. I added a considerablly smaller potters to a tank with a much larger established potters. THe established fish beat the hell out of the small one for several days but eventually accepted it.

From what I have read it looks like they can only change once. They start as females and if there isn't a dominant male present they start changing to males. If a male is added while they are still changing they might be able to stop and stay as a female. The problem as i see it is that size doesn't tell you much about their sex as a very small specimen can turn male if there is no dominant male. This could happen rather quickly even something like 20-30 days and there is no going back after that. I’m looking for information about coloration differences between males and females to help solve this problem. Has anyone kept a pair or small harem?

all news to me. my only question would be could male to female change happen in an aquarium setting without killing the fish due to stress. I'm not saying it can't happen just that the circumstances might be hard to reporduce without going through a few fish......

I would introduce a much smaller fish. I am not suggesting adding to full grow males at the same time and letting them duke it out. But please, one experience does not make me an expert.

I have paired dozens of pairs or trios of cherubs and flamebacks. I always just buy two or three small angels of the same type and introduce at the same time. I don't think I have lost a single one from them fighting with eachother. I have done this in tanks as small as 60 gallons (just pairs) I would not do a trio in anything less than 90 gallons. good luck.

How would you add 1 to a tank with an existing angel? I was thinking of trying it with my african flameback angel.

that is risky. You could try doing a little rock re-arranging and put a small flameback in it. The 45 gallon tank is kinda small as there is not a lot of room to run. I would consider this a risky move with maybe a 50/50 chance. Good luck

I was thinking of rearranging my rockwork anyways and was thinking of removing all the fish while I do this. After it's done, I would add the smaller angel to the tank. Giving it a few hrs befor I would add the rest or add them all at the same time but keep the smaller one seperated from the other angel by using some perforated acrylic.
