pairing false perc.?

I am in the process of looking for the best place to get my fish from locally, I have two places in mind. And I need help with one part of my choice.
To get the closest thing to a pair I can without having to wait 12-24 months to see if I did it right. If I can't actually see the fish before hand to see if two are swimming together all the time.
Is it safe to say that if I get a 3" and a 2" false perc they should pair up pretty well? Saying the 2" is or is very close to being mature enough to become a male. Should i go a little smaller?
I know false don't normally host as well as true's but is it best for them to have something to host to show their dominance a little more, have something/or reason to pair up together rather then just a tank full of LR. I'm assuming hosting helps promote dominant traits to each other..no?

Last question I promise! lol

I don't see much on here about inbreeding. Do you usually get your fish from the same person i.e. pretty good chance they were in the same spawn. especially tank bred clowns? Or do you buy one from one place and the other from someone else? Could there be a coincedence to some pairs not pairing so quickly or spawning due to some inside lightbulb sayin hey that was my brother/sister dude!

2 juvies is really all it takes, or you could just buy a pair, heck proven breeding pairs show up in the for sale forum over at Rareclownfish.com.

I recall somewhere reading that in clowns, the F6 generation is when things start breaking down from inbreeding..but who knows...that's all 2nd hand info!

Get Wilkerson's book - more than well worth the investment (heck, that F6 generation thing may be from her book, if not then it was someone else here in the FBF forum or maybe Hoff's book, or maybe someone over on RareClownfish).

FWIW,

Matt

Yeah I just don't want to wait 2 years to see if I got a pair wanting to spawn.

a 2" should be very close if not mature enough I think..right?
maybe 2.5"?

Size is not an indication of age. Read up on the social structure of clownfish and you will find that sexual maturity depends on it. You cannot determine gender or maturity by size.

It's all about the relationship.
