I have a sixline wrasse that it's front half is pale looking. It swims near the top of the sand. It bumps into anything. Not activitly eating. What could be wrong?

I can't give any water chemistry because I do have an available test kit. All I can say is that the temp is 83F and the SG is 1.021.

Any help would be great

Thanks

A picture would help.

Some basics on the tank .. size, how many fish, how old, any fish additions lately .. would help.

If you don't have a test kit .. then take a water sample to the LFS and have them test it .. while your at the LFS consider purchasing a test kit.

Fish hanging at the top of the tank is often a sign of breathing difficulties ... often associated with either water quality (ammonia) or parasite (ich, amylo, brook etc).

Since you can't test for ammonia you should consider making a major water change ... no downside and if its an ammonia issue it will help.

Since the fish has apparently been healthy and by itself for six months I doubt that the std parasites are the problem.

Not sure why your tanks at 83 degrees ... many would argue that high temp is stressful to the fish and warmer water holds less oxygen than colder. I suggest you turn down the heater.
