Palys opening funny

Hi,

In my 120 gallon tank (2x250 W MH lighting), I have some Palys at the bottom of the tank. Several of my frags, which I've had for a few months, are opening funny. I am wondering if this is a lighting issue or maybe a flow issue.

A few of them look like they are only partly opened (i.e. they are only opened 50 degrees).

A few of them look like they are opened extra far, not only fully opened by they are bending backwards (i.e. they are open more than 180 degrees).

Does one suggest too much lighting/flow and the other condition too little. I'm going to move them to different spots, but I just wanted to see if anyone had ideas about what new position might be desirable.

Thanks,

That happened to my RPE's once. I moved them closer to the light and they opened right up. I moved them about 3 times before that. Put them in different locations and see how they respond. Mine are looking awesome now.

Basically impossible to predict, specially without any info about your tank.

So you've got 2 things going on there:
1) Partial opening.
2) Umbrella syndrome.

Just play with the water flow first and see what happens. I wouldn't keep moving them around just because. If they have their colors fine and aren't
closed play with the flow first. You've got MHs, not to worry about light, unless they aren't exposed to it or if they're not on enough time!!

Pics? More info?
