Pan World External Pump - Cleaning and Maintenance?

I have a 100PX in my basement feeding an 120g upstairs. I bought this used and have had it running for a year with no issues. Pulling it out of the system is a bit of a hassle so I was wondering what other people's maintenance schedules were for this.

I maintain about a dozen of these pumps and usually take them apart to clean them every six to nine months. When you take yours apart replumb it with true union fittings to make it easier next time.

OK, thanks. I do have it plumbed that way. It's more the location...I have to move a ton of things to get to it.

I go about once a year and typically see a thin layer of brown film. They never seem to accumulate calcium or other deposits.

I dearly love these pumps

love my panworlds.

I try to clean mine every year on my thanksgiving vacation. ( I take that week off every year to do major maintenance on my tank)

I have gone as long as 2 yrs without cleaning it with no ill effects.

I have three PanWorld 200 and 250's. I have never had one sieze up which I can't say for the Mag Drive pumps and others I use. I do clean mine every six months, like I do every other pump. I do see some calcium buildup on the inside of the impeller where it sits on the spindle and I try and get that out with a vinegar soak.

Since these are my main return pumps, I have two of the same pump and just switch them out every six months and then take my time cleaning. It is always a good idea to have a backup return pump since thats the most critical part of your system.

I took my Panworld apart when I got it, the front housing screws were all loose from factory, looked at impellor and put it back together. Its been 7 months plus and is running fine. I just pulled my sump out yesterday and cleaned it, last time was October, it would have been perfect time to clean Panworld, but had no reason.
