Inbound Parkway closed again this weekend at Churchill

Motorists who can avoid the Parkway East inbound this weekend should do so.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will close the busy highway in that direction between the Churchill and Edgewood interchanges from 9 p.m. tomorrow until no later than 5 a.m. Monday. When the contractor finishes early, PennDOT reopens the road early.

All outbound lanes will remain open over the weekend.

However, inbound traffic will be detoured off the highway to Penn Avenue and then Braddock Avenue back to the Parkway East inbound at the Edgewood-Swissvale Interchange.

PennDOT said people who use the highway or the detour route should expect significant delays, "especially on Sunday afternoon," because that's when both the Penguins and Pirates will be playing in Pittsburgh.

Last weekend's backups were significant because the same area was closed.

Officials encouraged people to use alternate routes when possible. For example, westbound traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike may consider staying on the toll road until the Route 28/Allegheny Valley or I-279/Warrendale exits instead of coping with stop-and-go traffic for an hour or longer.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to go the back way from the South Hills to the meeting.

:D

What part of the South Hills?

There are a few of us from Baldwin/USC that carpool.

I wouldn't take this route. If you get off at churchill exit which puts you on penn ave you will sit for along time.
