I am thinking about putting a few of Montiporas and I was wondering if pc light would be enough light for them. I have a 90gal tank and the lights are 4x65. I have heard a few people doing this, but I just want to make sure...TIA
when I first started I kept a few monti caps and digis successfully, bit with very average color so I would think that the montis you want may survive but you'd be disinterested in them due to dull coloring...JMO.
I've had good luck with Montis under PC but you're probably going to need more than 4x65 over a 90. I was running 3x96 over a 50 and had good growth and pretty good color, but I'm much happier with the colors under my new T5s.
Pc's will almost always brown out most all colors of monti's as well as acro's....now my rare rose digitata looks better under pcs....but all my colors of caps browned under pcs...lived/survived nicely..just browned out...
I've grown corals in that genus under that level of lighting (not further than 12" from the bulb) and seen it done several times with good results. They do tend to grow faster under somewhat brighter light (not too bright though) and sometimes have brighter color. I'd try a few frags high in the tank and see if you like the results.
Thanks for the info guys. I am pickingup a monti cap tonight for free...lol so Im going to see how I do. I plan on getting T5's in the near future when I get the extra cash.
