Ummmmm yep. A full grown Peacock Mantis has on occasion busted through the typical 20 gallon. But a mature Peacock needs a ~40 gal anywho. Smaller specimens should be safe enough.
it is done all day long. just put a layer of acrylic or plexi glass on the bottom of the tank and make a burrow for the peacock in the shape of a U out of 2in PVC pipe.
the only real size that matters with mantis is really the foot print of the tank, not so much the height. with that said check out Dr. roys site and figure out what kind you like then go from there. there are too many that would fit into a tank that size.
Dr. Roy is the mantis shrimp guru. He is one of the foremost people in this area of research and has been a huge help to many of the people on this site. His List is stickied in the mantis shrimp forum home page, It is the top post. Inside the post there is a link to the "list". Hope that helps.
