Pentair filters

I have a 95 gallon flat back hex tank. I just ordered a Refugium for it and I also have the Pentair filter system on it. I have an AF-94 which I thought I would put Phosban in and a AF-93 I was going to put carbon in and I have 2 UV light canisters. My tank was drill and has 2 intakes on the bottom and they come back up thru a prefilter box. I will be pumping out about 500 GPH thru the Pentair system and about 1200 GPH thru the sump(500 or so thru the refugium and the rest thru the sump). I have it split off so the majority of the water just passes thru and a percentage goes thru the refugium. I also have a skimmer in the sump made by Tanze. Any opinions on this setup or ways to improve it?

Mechanical Filtration & Lower Flow

Mechanical Filtration & Lower Flow

Without a diagram, it is hard to picture your system. Here are some comments:

• You may want mechanical filtration (filter sock, skimmer, sieve, chaetomorpha, etc.) prior to the AF-94 and AF-93 modules to prevent debris from clogging the media.
• You may want to place the ferric oxide (PhosBan) media downstream of the carbon media to absorb any phosphates leaching from the carbon.
• 500gph is regarded as too high for a 4-inch diameter PhosBan reactor. A reviewer made the comment that “Phosban can break down into dust if more than 90 gph is used” (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_optRe...iption=Two+Little+Fishies+Phosban+Reactor+150).

I am also planning to add carbon and ferric oxide media to my system with a separate loop in the return compartment of my refugium. I’m trying to figure out if an Eheim 1046 or 1048 pump can mate to a pair of AF-93 modules. Let me know how the modular filters work out.
