pepermint shrimp nipping at RBTA help

Ok, I have a stupid pepermint shrimp nipping at my RBTA, he's litterally going up to it and picking it apart, and a day before, the RBTA looked perfect. Is this normal? Should I kill/remove the shrimp? HELP!

I will never keep peps or cleaners in an anemone tank again, they steal food and pick out the anemones delicate insides, a real PITA.

I caught a pair last week. I epoxy glued some food to the bottom of a clear measuring cup and held it in the tank. With a little coaxing the shrimp went in the cup and were easily scooped up. Took about 15 minutes to catch both of them

The shrimp are optermistic feaders and will munch on about anything, i have a few that like fungia! To catch it i would put some food preferable a krill something a bit lg to stay in the net and allow the shrimp to go after it. You will wrobly have better luck at night when lights are out! I've kept Pep shrimps with BTAs in the past with no issues.

A while ago, I tried to move my Haddoni ( carpet ) anemone to another tank. I ended up damaging it a bit, so I left it in that tank to heal. I thought it was completely healed, though it was moving around a lot. Since it was moving a lot it was easy to move, so I moved it do the downstairs tank. (( I was about to have knee surgery, and wanted to be able to keep an eye on it without having to go upstairs )). Got back home after 2 day, and noticed that that a couple spots on the outside rim were torn up a bit. That night I slept downstairs and noticed the Pep shrimp picking at it.

Ended up leaving a room light on for a couple of nights -- my shrimp only come out at night -- it give time for the anemone to heal. Now that is it healthy again they stay away from it.

So, what my long post is trying to say is that there may have been something wrong with the RBTA, that "allowed" the shrimp to attack it.

RBTA is(was) in very good shape. Also, the bastards are doing it during the day...

I've witnesses my peppermint do this to my RBTA too. I suggest feeding the pepps with freeze dried krill or a small piece of silversides til you can get them out. At least it will keep them busy.

Here's a link to a trap you can make out of a water bottle. I used this to trap my offending pepp. Good luck.

I'm one. I had problems with my fire shrimp and RBTA. He would pick, and always steal food... had to ditch the shrimp!

thanks thats a GREAT idea. Going to do it tomorrow night.

I managed to get one out today by holding a 20oz with the top cut off and some food in the bottom, he was slow so i go him ok. He is in the sump now.

Ok, so with the above method, i caught one of them last night, so thats 2/3. The 3rd is much smaller and I dont think he's the one nipping @ the rbta. Thanks a lot guys!!!

Congrats on chasing the little buggers. Not a big fan of peppermint or coral banded shrimp. Use to have a coral banded and he was the meanest little thing you ever seen. He would always rip all my fishes tails up. He definitly got the boot.
