Perc and Maroon not spawning

I have a pair of maroon and perc in separate tanks for over 5 months now but i don't see any signs of spawning.

they seem to be paired up because the size difference is definitely there and they sleep together every night.

tanks are lit on a 12 hour time schedule now but prior to that it's on a really irregular basis

i do not have a host anemone for them. percs sleep under a large LR and the maroons on the LR.

M perc is 2inches long, F perc is 3inches long. M maroon is 1inch long and F maroon 3inches long

i read that you need to have a sort of fixed lighting schedule for them to spawn

question:

1. does that mean that my clowns are incapable of spawning anymore because i did not have a fixed lighting sched before? (their day/night orientation destroyed?)

2. now that i do have a fixed lighting sched, will they still be capable of spawning?

3. anyway to induce or encourage them to spawn?

TIA!

>>anyway to induce or encourage them to spawn?

Increase water temp to 80-82f,,,, extend lighting cycle to 14hrs or more ,,,,, feed heavily with live food to simulate a plankton bloom.

No guarantees with any pair of clowns, but provide tank stability and a safe, non-threatening environment and you'll probably be rewarded in time.

5 months is nothing,,, come back after 18 months.

First of all I'd wait until the fish have been together for atleast 6 months before I'd even worry about it. I agree with juck that heavy feeding, especially live food, will help the clowns spawn. I don't think that previous lighting irregularities will be a big issue in the long run though it may take 3 months or so for them to get back on schedule. I'd also suggest adding moon lights or be sure there is a little ambient light in the room. I have a street light about 50 yards from my tank and that seems adequate.

alright then, i'll check back after 6mos...

thanks lots for the quick response!!!

hopefully my next post about this would be "HOW TO TAKE CARE OF BABY PERCS"
