question:

clams eat up nitrates and ammonia to some extent right?
so if i place a clam in a fowlr tank, with 40ppm nitrates, then nitrates will start dropping as the clam takes this in
?

Depends on what kind of fish you have in there, I don't recommend keeping clams in a fowlr tank. Most fish that go in these tanks aren't clam safe.

And for what its worth you would need quite a few clams to see a difference.

no,

photosynthetic clams (Tridacna) do use nitrogen but the amount of clams you would need in an average aquarium to see a drop in nitrogen would be huge

i have damsels and clowns, no angels, no triggers, a foxface and a rock blenny

there are 2 crabs, 1 hermit, 1 unidentified yet and 2 cleaner shrimps and 2 camel shrimps...

Makes me nervous...

Makes me nervous that post above says cleaner shrimp may be dangerous for clams...

My cleaner shrimp seldom get from behind the LR, except at feeding time...

Do I need to be concerned about them and our crocea, maxima and derasa?

Cleaner shrimp may pick at clams, it sounds like yours aren't. Keep them fed and keep an eye on them and you should be fine.
