Petsmart Tanks

Anyone purchase a large tank from Petsmart?

They have a 125 gal tall tank I am very interested in. I have been looking for other places to buy such a tank (Glass) but the shipping costs are rather large. Glasscages is another possibility, their prices are right despite the bad "feedback". Unfortunately I do not remember the brand from Petsmart. Anyone have any idea?

The glass 125 from Petsmart is something like $360
The glasscages 110 version (similar stand size) is $225

Taxes are an issue with Petsmart but shipping is an issue with Glasscages.

The Petsmart one has that tacky fake wood trim on the top and bottom to cover the seems. Mostly likely that will be covered with a canopy.

Have a quote request into Miricle Aquariums and AObessed. Any other suggestions?

I think they carry AGA

No they don't, they carry Top fin. Not to say it's bad, but it's deffinatly no AGA. Just research top fin and decide if you want to buy it.

I just priced a RR 180g from Pet Supplies Plus with a stand, it was right about $1160.00, and they said they would give me 10% off for a package deal, stand, tank.... best price I have found so far, from 5 different LFS's locally.
HTH!

Oh, and if Old Salty hasn't replied. reef ready is a tank that has been drilled with built in overflows....and he's right you WILL be glad you bought your tank that way!!

I use a Top Fin 55g tank from PetSmart for my sump. 18mos later and no problems yet.

Unless I were on a REALLY tight budget, I doubt I would ever use one for a display. Reef Ready is definately the way to go IMO.

My tank is a "TopFin" from Petsmart. It is the 120 gal (60x18x26) with black trim. My understanding is that the "TopFin" name is Petsmart's and the tank is made by Perfecto, atleast that is what I was told. I also heard that Marineland has purchased the Perfecto tank facility, but I'm not positive about all this - just what I was told. My tank has been up with water since 1-21-06 - so I can't exactly give you any help. My tank is doing "FINE" so far though!!!

OK so are you saying a TopFin 125 tall NOT RR is a bad idea? I am working with estimates from a couple of places like AO. It is just that driving over to Petsmart (5 mins), loading it in the back of the SUV and then driving home is so much easier than ordering. However I am OBSESSED with making sure everything is perfect.

Other than
Glasscages
AO
Miricle

Any other suggestions about REASONABLY priced tanks?
Am I better buying something locally? Than having it shipped?

Flashpt the Petsmart in my area carries Oceanic tanks also. I don't know if that is a good brand or not though, but if you ask the head of the fish department, they may have it on their order list.

If you are looking for a stock tank this is what I would suggest.

Go to your local fish store. AGA always runs a fire sale once or twice a year. Ask the LFS to give you their best price on the tank you want. If it can't beat Pets Mart or others, then go with the best deal.

I think oceanics prices are outrages for what you are getting plus you have to buy their stand at their price in order for a warranty to be valid.....

If your looking for Starphire Glass....premium clear glass low iron glass, I would look at the manufactures above plus this one:

Also, definetly get a REEF READY "RR" tank.

Good luck.

Nice catch with the Oceanics rpeeples. The LFS I got my AGA from closed down after 30 years of busines. They had the best prices in town on anything over 100gal.

I have checked out the feedback in the other forum on Glasscages this is the only reason I am having this discussion is because of that feedback. I have a big interest in one of their tanks but am worried now.

I have purchased many tanks from Petsmart over the years and never had a problem. Just as a way to measure, I recently purchased a 90 AGA RR aquarium for $279.00. (tax was extra at 8.8%) This price did not include the stand or the glass tops. Tank only.

Regards,

Pat
