PH control

The pH levels of my tank fluctuate pretty heavily between day and night. I've read several websites and books which say that this is normal in tanks but I also understand that in general it's best to keep pH level (as well as other params) as stable as possible.

One method I read was to have a fuge lit at hours opposite to when the main tank is lit. I do have a fuge which contains chaeto, well lit and grows pretty well. So far my attempts to have this lit only at night are still in the trial and error phases, but since it's a pretty small fuge, I don't get the sense that this alone would control the fluctuation.

Just for ideas, I'd like to know other methods that people use to stabilize the pH level of their tank between day and night. Anybody willing to share?

keep the fuge lite 24/7 and if that doesn't help you need to work to improve gas exchange with lights off, do your fans turn off with the lights??

I had it going 24/7, so I guess I can just go back to that.

Fans? I have a chiller/heater which runs 24/7. Pumps also run 24/7.

What would be some good methods to improve gas exchange when the lights are off?

increase ventilation into the canopy and sump/fuge areas and increase surface agitation. I'm not sure what the weather is like in Tokyo but if your home is closed up you can increase the fresh air exchange in the home. some people have the air to their skimmer being fed via a line that extends outside so the build up of CO2 in the house doesn't depress pH.
