ph in hyposalinity

It looks like I may need to use hyposalinity for my black ich problem unless there is something else that works. My question is what does dropping the salinity to 1.009 do to the ph and is this something you need to worry about and tinker with? Or can it be left alone for the treatment without worrying about it?

I'm just at the end of my rope, this tank has been one disaster after another, it has taken all the fun out of a reef tank. I don't know what to do to fix this. I'd rather not do hyposalinity if I can avoid it as I have a full time job and 2 kids so I may not be able to be as diligent as I would like. I also don't have an auto top off and do not plan on buying one at this time

There is a thread in this sub-forum about Crypt-Pro, there are some other suggestions in that thread too that may be useful in your case.

When I performed hypo, I used spring water for my QT. The 5 gallon drums. That water was about 7.6-7.8 pH, I tried all sorts of things to bring the pH up. Baking Soda, KH Buffer, but in the end, it was best to leave it alone. I posted on several forums but I didn't get any real response on how to handle the pH. In the end, someone told me to forget about it and that's what I did.

One thing that I didn't do during hypo is use Seachem's Prime. I should have used that because I was performing 50% PWC daily. It was exhausting on me and I'm sure stressful on the fish when someone has to syphone their home everyday.

Take a look at that thread and hope that helps. I wish I found the Crypt-Pro thread earlier.

cheers

W.
