There is much debate on the ideal parameters but IMOP the PH generally should be in the 8.2-8.4 range. I have heard of people keeping it in the 8.0-8.1 range and having no ill effects but the previous paramaters have been ideal for me.
Are you running a calcium reactor? If so, build up of C02 in the atmosphere around the tank can cause lower PH in the water or access C02 injected directly in the water can cause lower PH. I had this issue when I first starting running my reactor and I had to exhaust the air in my cabinet to the outside of the house to reduce the C02 in the room. I also added baking soda to the tank in small amounts to raise the PH. Be careful on the later as to much baking soda can screw up the chemistry in the water.
There are also commercial supplements that you can buy to raise and lower the PH of the tank.
