Phosban

Greetings,

I have a "red slim" problem. I am using RO/DI water with TDS 0. My Nitrates are 0 and according to my test kit my Phosphates are at 0.

My question is, Does it hurt anything to run Phosban if there are no Phosphates? I have Phosban Reactor that I have been using for Carbon.

Thanks!!!

Mike

red slime is more fed by silicates than phosphates although it needs both. phosban is supposed to help remove silicates also. dust from phosban kills reef animals if tumbled too hard or not rinsed well. at least some people claim this. some of the prime reef company foods seem to contain alot of silicates. maybe in the gel they use to hold the ground up food together. ocean nutrition is the company. all food is bad some is worse. more flow may help, try directing the water where the slime lays and hope for the best. more frequent and larger water changes may be needed also. vacuum the sand all the way to the glass bottom. this is at least what I would attempt.
good luck

Also, make sure you have a good skimmer. Good skimming usually solves red slime (cyanobacteria). Growing and harvesting macroalgae also helps.
