phosguard and macro algae

i see where several seahorse people are using carbon and phosguard as media in their seahorse tank..
my question is, will the phosguard impede the growth of the caulerpa prolifera?
if so. what other media would you recommend??

thanks,, lisa

It doesn't seem to in my tank. I am constantly having to "harvest" the caulerpa (my wife refers to it as crapulera because it invades her huge zoanthid colonies...)

thanks for the response Lightsluvr...
i had numerous macro algaes in my tank, trying to get them established before adding any seahorses, but the only one to survive so far has been the prolifera.... i didn't want to lose it also...

thanks again,,, lisa

Prolifera is pretty hard to kill, I wouldn't worry. There was this time I moved across town and had all my macro's in bags and forgot about this tubberware that had a bag of prolifera for two weeks. No temperature control, no aeration, nothing. I opened the bag, put it in the tank and it was fine. Stuff is indestructible.

What macro's have you been having problems with?

If the tank is fallow it would make sense there is trouble growing macro lgae since it needs both phosphate and ammonia or nitrate to survive. If your not introducing those things it could starve out.

IME using phospahte reducing products has limited the growth of macro algae in my systems. That said macro algae can grow so fast at times, not sure it is always a bad thing. IIRC and don't quote me on this but taxifloria can grow from a 1mm piece to 3 feet in a day. Limiting it's growth might not be bad. ;)

IME even when using phophate products my prolifera has always done well. I got my first 6" piece of prolifera in 02' never purchased it since, still have some.
