ANYONE USE A PHOSPHATE REACTOR , I HAVE A KENT MARINE ONE BUT HAVENT OFFICAILLY SET IT UP YET. WAS MESSING AROUND THIS WEEKEND AND REALLY DONT LIKE HOW IT RUNS, SEEMS TO BE VERY MESSY I.E. PHOSPHATE LEAK INTO TANK??
If the PO4 resin is getting into the tank you are probably running too much flow through the reactor. The flow should have the surface of the PO4 resin just tumbling with clear water above the resin.
You usually need to rinse the resin before using it to get the dust off it.
The media shouldn't tumble at all, I use a 2 little fishies reactor and the reactor itself is great, I have had a issue with losing SPS after starting it but after research have turned the flow down even more and use less Phosban.
I run 2x 2 little fishes reactors on my 260... Works as advertised.. I have a MJ 1200 'T'ed off... then the flow backed off with the inline valve... I wouldnt run a salt tank without one

Originally posted by ohioreefer I was using RowaPhos, but a friend of mine is using PhosBan in hers and it instructs her to have it just barely tumbling.
I've never used Rowaphos but here are the directions for Phosban
Instructions:
Do not rinse before use. It can initially turn the aquarium water slightly brownish due to release of fine particles. This is temporary and harm- less to fishes, plants and inverts. To be effective. It must be used in a flow- through contact chamber, not merely placed in the aquarium. Position so that the water is directed through it. It crumbles easily and should be packed firmly so that the granulars do not tumble, which would grind them.Put it in filter bag or between 2 layers of fine filter floss in a canister filter or filter chamber of a wet/dry filter or sump. In a canister filter, the flow can be reduced with a valve on the output so that it is possible to measure zero phosphate in the water leaving the canister.

I don't know who to believe. My directions for the phosban reactor says to run 70 gal/hr. I have mine running at about 35gal/hr and the phosban is tumbling for 6 months now with no issue of it breaking down. I just read more of the directions and itdoes say the phosban granules should tumble slightly at the surface. I think I might turn mine down some more. I also put a carbon bag over the exit to catch anything coming out, when stuff does come out it is only during the first few days after adding the new phosban.
