Phosphate removal

Hi everyone! UPS delivered my Salifert phosphate test kit last night and my test showed a level of 0.5, which I recognize a being high. I have a couple of questions. Which is the best way to remove the phosphate? Do I spend a little $ and purchase a phosphate reactor and the media, or do I just hang the product in a filter bag in my sump (if so, which product do you recommend)? Or do I go with a minimalist approach and look to doing some larger water changes more often? Thanks in advance for the advice!

A small bag of phosguard once a month has been doing the job for me. If I had a larger tank with not as much stuff hanging on the tank as I do, I'd probably get the reactor. But phosguard works great. .5 really isn't that high. My tap water has 2 ppm in it so I don't use that anymore. Maybe you don't either, just a warning on one source it can come from.

Thank you, thank you. I'm going to try some phosban. This site is great, I'm out here all alone on the prairie and all I have to do is ask a question...the answers come flyin' in!. Thank for the input.

I was using poly-filters and carbon, switch to a product by Seachem called SeaGel and the small amounts I had of slime algae vanished.

WATER CHANGES and HEAVY SKIMMING along with a good carbon, a good salt, and poly filters. No matter what you use it wont work witouht water changes and heavy skimming.
