Is photoshop the favorite photo editing software around here?
If so, where do I get it? It wouldn't happen to be shareware would it? Is there a free program that works well too?

thanks,
Stephanie

Photoshop is a fantastic program. I consider an wonderful design tool it goes far beyond basic photo editing. I use Aperture for my basic photo editing and it's wonderful for the RAW workflow. Photoshop CS2 you should be able to pick up at your local computer store (comp usa ect...) but it is rather expensive. If you happen to be a student it's much less expensive around 300 dollars.

Thanks Dan. :)
I think I'll have to find something much cheaper. That's about the same as what I paid for my camera.

You should be able to get a copy of Photoshop Elements 4.0 for less than $100. It's the "little brother" version of the full Photoshop program. I know a lot of folks who use it because of cost issues and the pics they get out of it are great.

And even cheaper than Elements is Irfanview. It has some basic editing features like color adjustments and sharpening, and is very good at resizing. For the price it's a great deal :p

Rawshooter Essentials is a great RAW program. It has a free version that I use and am happy with. It has exposure and WB control as well as some minor level control.

Did I mention that it's free?

essentials 06

dag nabbit, looks like adobe got their greedy paws on it... :-( well, get it while you can...

A little secret for buying expensive software. And yes its legal. Buy an older version. Usually you can get them for less that $100. Then buy the upgrade. The Photoshop CS upgrade is $135. Total $235 vs. $570 if you buy the new version.
