Photography Forums?

Just as I used ReefCentral to learn all I could about Saltwater Tanks, Fish and Corals.......I would like to do the same with digital cameras. I've narrowed my choice of camera to Cannon and Nikon. Before I purchase a camera, I'd like to educate myself with as much knowledge as possible. That said, what are some of best forums for photography out there? I've bookmarked some, but would like other reefkeepers opinions as well. Thanx.

Nikoncafe.com
Nikonians.org
Nikongear.com

dpreview.com (I rarely read this one now, a lot of junk you have to weed through, great for news on new product though)

I love the community at nikoncafe

there are a lot of reef people there too

fishpharm, I don't know what it's like where you live, but here we have great local camera shops that are really helpful

I also think its important to consider the selection/cost of lenses

Just to add to the conversation. What kind of macro lenses would be ideal to add at start up? I see some really beautiful shots of polyp extension on Acros.....what kind of lense is needed to get picts of this magnitude?

well that depends on budget and brand of camera...

Nikon and canon make great lenses...

Tamron makes an excellent macro lens as well...

myself, I would stay away from sigma...there are better lenses for the same money...

Also, for what its worth, I would stick with canon unless you want to go for a camera like the Nikon D80.

until you get to that range of camera, canon takes the cake...much less noise at higher ISO with the canon XTI, versus something like the Nikon D80.

This is very important for low light shooting, and well, most aquarium shots are going to be low light situations compared to everyday photos.

Don't get me wrong, Nikon makes a great camera, and I shoot Nikon myself, but I feel for the mid-entry level cameras canon makes a better product.

I live in the Chicago suburbs and I'm sure there are quite a few in my neck of the woods. As for camera shops versus purchasing thru the internet sites. Pros and cons.

one of the best site to critique and have your photos critiqued:
photosig.com
nice interface to rate photos as well as the critiques of the photos. I've learned more from that site than any other.
