I am looking to get into photography as a hobby. I am just wondering if you guys have a good book recommendations or other forums. I know basically nothing about photography.

Understanding exposure by Bryan Peterson. - He does a great job at explaining the different elements that go into creating a good exposure (photograph)

john shaw's nature photography is a nice book, covers the basics well. Really depends on how you learn though, gotta find the right book for you, the information is all the same, but the presentation is all different. Go to barnes and noble and try to find something that works for you.

Go to your nearest used book store.

There is a book called 'Photography'. By Barbara something and John Upton. It has SEVERAL editions. I think the 9th edition is out...

THe first ones were when Barbara and John were married, it was "photography - by barbara and John Upton" but her name changed in the later editions and there are a few new authors...

When I teach photo classes, that is the recommended text. Also, IF you were into professional photography, and were a member of PPA.com, you would have to memorize that book to become a Certified Professional Photographer. It is an industry standard, and is BASIC, so don't be afraid.

The later editions have a lot of digital crap in it. Learn the basics of photography FIRST, then the digital comes..

Some deja vu going on here!!!!! I'm gonna give you something else to do. When you go down to the camera store, take a sd card and a cf card if you have them. Try the demos in the store out. That's what they're there for. Get the "feel" of the different models. When I'm out on a shoot, my camera stays in my hand. Comfort is a good thing!!!!

LOL yea after posting here I remembered how many photographers are in the lounge so i double posted. Thanks for the info
