Photoshop cannot open files

Recently I've noticed that when I open most files in Adobe Photoshop, I receive the following error, Photoshop cannot open files in the "[other file format Photoshop should be able to open]" format.
Any suggestions how to fix Photoshop files please.

Open the Creative Cloud app and try to update photoshop. What file formats are you trying to open?

I've had this happen and then found on my file somehow the .psd suffix was missing. I added that the file and issue was solved. Not sure if that's your issue or not, but if it is that's a quick fix.
