I'm less than a year into the hobby and thought I might try and save some money by culturing my own copepods and phytoplankton. Having some troubles with the pods, but my questions are regarding my phtyo.
I am using Melevsreef's recipe (except the Kent Essentials). It didn't seem like it was needed because he just added it to his recipe. Anyway, I used another hobbyist home culture to start my own. I did not put much in, so my bottles were very light in color. It has become much greener, but it has taken about 1 month and it is still not as dark as the original phyto.
Is this phyto still good? How necessary is the Kent essentials? The sediment on the bottom of the bottle is a lighter color, not dark green. What do you think? Good, Bad?
