Do picasso clownfish pass on similar coloring to all of their offspring? Or is the coloring something that just shows up in a small number of the babies?

Yes the baring pattern will be passed on to the baby fish. The pattern may be more or less complx then the parents. But not all fish will have the picasso pattern. Some will have misbars and others might even have full bars! Its all in the genes!

Thanks for the quick response. I've had some luck breeding freshwater, and may give the clowns a shot.

Thats great, but keep in mind breeding fresh water is totally diffirent than breeding salt water! If you have breed fresh water cichlids and some of the other african fish I would sart with Banggi Cardinals as they mouth brood just like some of the cichlids!

Never tried cichlids, mostly bred guppies and mollies. Had one lucky Betta breeding session where a few babies made it.
I was considering trying Banggai's as well, but I just love the look of some of those Picasso variations. I was hoping to breed myself a show pair. I also like the challenge of egg layers.
I do have a bunch of extra tanks and equipment. Probably wouldn't have to buy anything besides rotifers and phyto cultures.
Another question I thought up... Should a fry tank be cycled?

I never cycle my fry tanks!Really I dont.I just make sure my toxicity levels dont go to high.

If you really want to try breeding you your self a good bunch of Picassos read read read as much as you can!

I clean my larvae tanks to often to cycle them. After they go through metamorphosis I have a cycled sponge filter to use in their tank though. I cycle the sponge filter in the sump of my reef tank.
