Picasso clowns at Adam's

Just thought some of you that are clown geeks out there would be interested in knowing that Adam's has 3 picassos in right now. He used to have 4:D . I am big fan of these little guys. They are pretty darn cute. The one I already have has really started coloring up in only 2 months time.

They're $150 and are about 1" to 1 1/2" big. I'm surprised they weren't charging more than that to be honest.

Given how incredibly overpriced everything is at Adams, I would guess that they are around $650 a piece. If that is too steep for you, you could always buy $100 brown zoanthids.

got pictures?

LOL, somehow I knew that was going to be asked. I haven't gotten any good pictures of them yet. And once I do get good pictures, I don't know the easiest way to post them on here. I will work on it though. The one I got several months ago has a ton of white in her and the orange areas are already starting to darken up and, I hope, turn black. The new one doesn't have quite as much white but has a lot more than some of the pictures of others I have seen floating around the internet. Unfortunately, the coolest one I have seen so far is the one out of the pair from several months ago that didn't make it. It had what looked like white lambchops on both sides of its face. Unfortunately, it had a battle royale with the other one after a week and I did not separate them in time.

As mentioned, the price is $150/piece, which isn't cheap but is very fair considering what ORA is now charging and what some online places (like LiveAquaria) is asking.

Forgive my ignorance on clowns, but does anyone have a picture of any kind of picasso clown? I have never heard of them and am interested in why they are so rare.

so -correct me if I am wrong - but all you really need is a misbarred perc and a misbarred osc. and then you breed them - then take the two most misbarred and in-breed them and then keep in breeding to get the least natural bar pattern then sell them for an outrageous fortune ....so in other words you pay huge dollars for an in-bred fish that was bred specifically to stand out as unnatural....

So clownfish are becoming the pop-eyed fan tail goldfish of the SW community.

JDreefer - dude I'd get a smaller clown and see if you can entice them to breed!!!

Actually...I have heard that the original parents are an Onyx and a wild-caught that happened to have large amounts of funky-patterned white in it. They are both perculas. Only a certain percentage of the offspring have the picasso pattern. The rest are probably either regular looking perculas or may have higher pecentages of black in them? I have also heard that ORA may now be breeding some of the original offspring together but I don't know the truth to that. If that were the case, I guess you don't really know if you are buying 1st generations or 2nd, if you really cared.

I have two of them now. The older one appears to have accepted the little guy and they appear to be a happy, young couple in their anemone. I really thought about getting an Onyx from Rod's to put with her but then Adam got in more Picassos. I already have a pair of false percs that spawn all the time, so maybe there is hope for these guys. However, if they ever actually do, I will probably have to let someone who has more free time and more experience try to actually breed them and raise the fry.

Well, let's see if this works. Crappy pictures of my picasso clowns...
