Pics of my new bta

I put these pictures up earlier in a different thread of mine about an lta, but I thought I'd share them in their own thread. I got this bta just a couple days ago. He settled into this spot after about 12 hours or so. I have a pair of black percs that have slept in him both nights, but I haven't yet seen them in the anemone with all the tank lights on. Anyone know if this is common or maybe an explanation for that (I know they just met the other day so maybe it's just too early still). Anyways, here are the pictures. My camera and photography skill leave something to be desired, but it's the best I could do.

WOw. Simply amazing. Not to mention, how did you get your coraline algae like that. What kind of lighting do you have?
 
The tank is a 29 with 150 watts of vho lighting. What you're seeing is over 4 years of growth on those rocks as well. I've always had really fast coralline growth for some reason. I don't dose the tank with anything or run a calcium reactor or anything like that. I simply do weekly water changes of about 3-4 gallons. I use Red Sea salt. I know that isn't the most popular brand, but it's what I started with when I first set the tank up, and if it ain't broke...
 
Looks great Koj. Ocellaris and Percula are notoriously difficuly hosters so it is pretty normal to take months before they decide to move in. Or they might move in the first day, or they may never move in.

Of course you can always send those pretty clowns my way and I can send you some clarkii in return. They are notoriously good hosters! :)
 
I would LOVE to know where you found your purple tip bta....all the purple tips I find are long tentacle anemones, not bt. I had a orange w/ purple tip coming to me, but it died before it was shipped. I hate to wait another 6 mths to find a purple tip bta.

Like the other poster said, it might take several weeks. A friend of mine was upset that her black perc didn't immediately take to her bta. It took her perc about 1 month...it took my tomato/cinnamon (nobody knows what it is) clown about a week to settle into my bta.
 
I'm afraid it would be quite a drive from North Carolina. I purchased it at my favorite lfs here in Spokane, WA. I'm not sure about rules on posting store names (though I'd be glad to give him some free publicity if a mod gives the ok). Until then, if anyone wants to know, just shoot me a pm. When I bought mine, they did still have two more left...

I have never seen coraline algae like that. I can't get over it. It has to be the lighting. BTW, noce BTA. Don't worry, your clowns will take to it.
 
Very nice nem! It looks alot like mine actually. I have a thread in the Nano section if you want to compare.

My black Ocellaris pair took about 3 days for them to adopt the new BTA. At first, they also would only sleep in the nem. Now the female won't leave it's side.

Great job on your tank!
 
Those anemones do look nice. I've never seen a blue lta before. I've never bought corals or fish online. I know many do without any problems, but I just can't bring myself to buy a living animal without being able to inspect it myself, watch it for a while, see it eat, etc.

thats why this hobby is expensive. lol.
 
My understanding is that we don't really know why it happens, but is seems to be perfectly normal, and is usually the norm.
 
Nice BTA,
I have a RBTA that only had the bubble tips for the first week it was in the tank, and hasn't had them since. I don't think it is anything to worry about.
 
Thanks for the info. I thought I had a LTA now I know that is not what I have. I have a bta. Good info thanks
