Pictures Of Montoursville High School Tank Crash

Sorry to hear about the accident, but after reading what was written, I think tax dollars and school funds can be allocated towards better causes besides a fancy reef tank for students to look at only. It's 'our' not 'are' for example.

School does not pay for it and we as a group help them. We do fundraising, fraging, time,,etc to support the aquarium. Many members spend tons of money to help ocean education in our area. They give prizes, help with salt, fish, corals, equipment. School won't put that much money. School will put alot of money for football but when it comes to ocean or marine they don't do much because most of the people in our area (residents) think that we are too far away from the ocean to worry about protecting it.

I don't think there's much protection when the tank crashes everytime someone leaves. And there's something fishy about that in my opinion.

The doors are usually locked and this time were open. This time the controller from RO did not kick off and let the water in the tank non stop. First time the AC went off (power loss) and it was one of those electronic digital AC and did not come back. They did not know that it happened. The second time the RO. Now here is what I decided to do. The problem is that the room is really small but we just got another AC that will kick on and off when the temp changes and we did not hook it up yet. The RO problem we decided not to hook it automatically and specially when there is a long holliday or I'm away. This time we will build a better system and few things has to change to imporove it. We go with what we have and I learned not to buy expensive shippment and put it in one tank.

Mo
Sorry to hear about the tank I might have some more stuff at the meeting to donate.

It really seems to me that you have some sort of problem with what Mo is trying to do by setting up a beautiful tank like this to educate kids. You have to understand the time and effort he puts towards these tanks just for the kids.

Fragging as well as Breeding of clownfisth were going to be done by students.

Oh I understand the time and effort. What I question is if the end justifies the means.

I'm not saying this to start a debate, but you say WERE going to be done and how long has this tank been up? I think it has been long enough to where if that was to be done it would have been done.
It's not like this was the first time the tank crashed, and it coincidentally just happens with the same circumstances. I'm allowed to voice my opinion, an unbiased 3rd party's opinion whiles all your opinions will be biased 1st party, and that's all it is, an opinion. Don't stress too much over my words..:)
All too often when we're overzealous about something, we tend to think everyone should like it or think of it as cool as we do. All too often, we neglect to think how is it perceived through another person's eyes. Maybe you guys think this will benefit their education. I merely speak from another perspective. I think I'm doing just fine w/o having to learn how to breed Clownfish and fragging corals in school.

Actually, you know what. Let's just say, not my state, not my town, not my school, not my business. Sorry for butting in..:)

Sounds like the right decision and obvious choice! :)

XeniaMania: you are welcome to post anytime and it is good to hear different ideas and what everybody think.
Breeding, fraging and teaching it to new generation or future generation is a big step on teaching them about ocean. We have more people fraging, breeding these days than 10 years for example where all we did was to collect and collect. Now is time to teach the right way of reefkeeping. Mistakes happens and that should not make us give up. We try our best to get more people involve in our program with a respect to this hobby and not just a piece of equipment or screensaver in the living room. We have example of students who got involve in fraging and have passed tons of corals to other reefers. More we frag, breed =Less collected from the ocean . More we teach about ocean and life in ocean =more respect to the ocean. Things happens and we learn from our mistakes. We have ignored live rock on those systems and have rocks we make. Check out website and go to some schools we have used cement rocks in them. This will save few pounds of them to be picked from the ocean. It might not be alot but if we encourage and show people you can do that then in the future we won't have any rocks collected. Few pounds now and maybe thousands of pounds later on. Those thousands of pounds cover alot of area in the reef and it is a habitat of alot of life. You might not need any of these education like you said but many have learned from it. You can check our programs and agree or disagree to them and it does not matter if you are in this state or other states we all live in the planet earth that needs our attention. Please don't feel you can't voice your openion and I know what you mean when you say that it is odd that this happens twice with the same circumstances (almost the same but different things caused each one ) we are learning and we pass our mistakes to others so they don't do it and that's by itself is education.

Well I can see your point XeniaMania, but I honestly believe that kids need diversity in schools. Dissecting frogs and catching bugs was fun but thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s about all we did in school as far as hands on science. Itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s a simple fact that the schools put way to much money in football and baseball because many people believe that they are important. Just to have kids hoping for a dream that will never come true. What should they be putting in for the children to learn from, Mo and many others believe that a reef tank is worth it? If your willing to foot the majority of the bill step up and educate something that you believe is important. I doubt any school would turn down any offer to educate.
