I made up my first batch of your recipe #1 Ca/Alk dosing solution. I've been using the Alk for 2 weeks, but have only had the Ca for 4 days. I'm very happy with the results so far. My little 25g SPS tank (~20g actual) seems to be using 22ml of both Ca and Alk a day by my calculations, but I still have a lot of data left to collect and analyze.
Here come the questions. After letting the Ca bottle sit overnight, it has a pink precipitate present on the bottom of the jug. Very little is visible, a fine layer across the bottom. When the jug is turned a little, the precipitate dissolves instantly. Is this normal/ok? I used what I believe to be Dowflake, but could it be contaminated? The raw Dowflake itself has a bit of this same color tinge to it.
Also, I have a peristaltic pump, but currently can only use it to dose from one source. Is it okay if I dilute the solutions with RO water before dosing? Also, is there any way I could mix the Ca and Alk mixtures in say 2 or 3 cups of RO water and dose combined from that, or should I just dose one, flush the tubing, and then dose the other?
Thanks!
