I have one piece of LR that has all sort of plant life growing on it. The dark green colored stuff is really ugly to me. Is it good? Bad? If so what eats it and how do I get rid of it? thanks

The lighter green looks like halimenia and the dark green seems like a kind of Kelp.
Kelp usually do not survive for long and it is not usually invasive. Halimenia grows well and could be a good decorating plant if you like them in the main, it can be easily prunned and kept at bay.

I think the darker stuff is a type of sargassum, possibly S. Hystrix

Jdieck, did you mean Halimeda for the lighter stuff? ;)
Sargassum was the name I was looking for! not Kelp, I had some of it and just disapeared in a month or so, I think my Tangs could have got it or just dwindled away.
On the other one I know of two. Halimeda which has the larger leaf (about a nickle size) and the Halimenia which has the little leaf (about 1/8 to 1/4" dia)

Thanks for the I.D. For now I won't worry, I'll just keep my evy on things. This is a new startup for me and I'm trying to be very cautious and catch things early. Thanks a bunch guys...

Hmm, the only halimenia I was aware of was Halymenia ( dragons tongue ) a red macro. I'll have to check it out.
Please, Let me know if you find something different, I saw the comparison in an old book but interested to know.

Thanks

 I went back to my books, Look at Tony Calfo's Reef Invertebrates and found the Halimeda and Halymenia pics next to each other and you are right There seems to be no such a Thing as Halimenia. Having the bug I went to my Spanish books and found the one I had seen the name and description of the "Halimenia" then look at the pic index and found it was a "misspelling" of Halimeda!

Sorry for the confusion.
