Planting Mangroves

I was wondering if mangroves grow better when they are rooted in live sand or when their roots are suspended in the water column. For some reason I have had better luck suspending them.

Sorry i cant answer your specifically, I have one in the sand which is growing quite fast. Mine sits up pretty high on prop roots though so there is alot of root exposed to the water column.

In my experience they grow best is a deep substrate. For mine, i used silica sand and garden soil, covered with oolitic sand. In one year my mangroves have gone from 2 leaves and 1' tall to 3-4' tall with over 100 leaves. I have never seen impressive growth when the roots are suspended in water.
