Plants root system qestion

When aquaculturing a plant, does their root system release anything back into the water ? or they just take up, "helthy plants", and plants like mangroves. Thanks

There is likely to be gas exchange through the roots. In the case of some macros ( which dont have true roots ) there may be toxin release. Aside from that though I would say primarily uptake. There's bound to be literature out there on this subject.
