When i first got this coral 4 months ago it had beautiful purple ridges with blue valleys. Overtime the colours have slowly faded i cant figure out what to do with it. My aquarium is lit with a AI Prime HD running at about 40% intensity, placed 10 in above the water. The coral is about 14 inch from the surface.
All the water parameters are in check. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What's the spectrum you're running on the AI? Some LPS aren't big fans of the white LED's being turned up too high.

You might want to find the coral some shade for a week or so and see how it responds. You can always move the coral back out into the light if need be.

Im running them at 12000k minus the green and reds

That's a pretty white spectrum... 18-20k will probably work better if you want more colors on the platygyra, but to each their own as far as how much blue you like in your tank. Mine's around 30k blue :p

I think might trying going higher kelvin temp, hopefully all the corals colour up more with little effect on growth rates.

So have things improved for you? If so, what was the key.

I picked up a 1"X1" frag a couple months ago. The kind with bright green valleys and dark brown ridges. I started on the bottom to acclimate and the brown faded some though the fluorescent green maintained. I moved it to the middle and the brown color stabilized. Growth is good and the thing loves to eat. I wish the brown was darker but at least it didn't get any worse.

Unfortunately not. I have been trying to place it in different areas of the aquarium and see how it responds with no real luck. Im starting to feed it again since algae outbreak has been subdued.

In my aquarium some corals are really doing well this includes stylophora, blastomussa, duncan, flowerpot and xenia. Where as my acan, leptoseris and platygyra just seem to be on a slow decine.

I doubt the par levels are too high as im running my ai prime on less than 50% total power.

If u have any suggestions id be interested to hear them :)

Sorry to learn that your platygyra is still unhappy. The only thing I can think of is to find it some shade for a while (if you haven't done that already. I have a ricordea yuma that was ****ed off--it was slowly losing its beautiful orange color and shrinking over the course of a couple months. I moved it to a lower light area, (near a partial over hang)and after several months it has colored up, regained it's size and had babies.

Based on that exercise I learned that when experimenting with placement to help a coral recover, patience is key. It's going to take a while.

I moved it into an area with indirect light, as well as im going to try taking out the gfo and carbon. With an Algae turf scrubber running now hopefully i shouldnt get to much algae in the display.

How do you keep the elevated nitrate levels up while avoiding nuissance algae ?
