I'm not too sure about the yellowness that you mentioned but I believe the stringy stuff is cyano.

1st pic is palythoa I believe. 2nd pic looks like early stage of coralline algae and the last pic is cyanobacteria.

so do i just leave the lights off for a few days?

For that small amount I would just siphon it out as needed.
