Hey, my name is Brian, and I have been dreaming about a reef tank for years. Soon I should have the money to actually get started so I have ramped up my research again and found this community. My wife and I live in SW County so we were bummed when Something Fishy closed before we could get started.

That’s about all for now. I'm pretty psyched to be able to chat with people in the same city with interest in reef keeping.

Thanx. I have been reading on this forum about UA, and I'm going to go there Saturday. I stopped by Zooquaria in Christinasburg today to take a look there. They didn't have very much so it was discouraging. I'm glad that UA is around.

yeah, ZooQuatic has gone down hill. i can't imagine they will last much longer when PetSmart opens up its doors in Christiansburg.

Wellcome.

Let us know when you set up your reef/ fish only tanks and there is enough of us to give you stuff for free to start you off. Just post and let us know if you need help or the best thing for a beginner is to turn up to a meet and get to know everybody. There is always stuff for sale or for free depending on what you want.

Feel free to add your own remark after that one, adult or sarcastic :p:D

As for my tank plans, I have a townhouse that I am trying to sell, and once that sells then I will start buying what I need for a tank. We would like something in the 50 to 90 gal. range, reef-ready. Our biggest confusion is what to get for lighting (big surprise there). We are not planning on any SPSs. We do like some of the LPSs, and we want lots of inverts, and a clown/anemone pair. We are planning on staying away from anything that will eat anything else in the tank besides what we feed it. We don’t want to get attached to a cute little shrimp only to wake one morning to having him nowhere to be seen and another critter with a big satisfied smile.

Get the biggest tank you have room for, and look for something that has more "depth" to it (i.e. avoid something like the 55 gallon that I have, as aquascaping is difficult in a tank with narrow depth). Get 2 x 250W metal halides to begin with, you'll probably end up with them eventually anyway. Check the "Used Equipment Selling" and the local forum to find really good deals on lights.

I have a mixed reef tank with all peaceful fish and inhabitants.
