Yeh, craigslist is great, but it really draws alot of bad people.
Definately gotta be careful on there.
 
Wow. Sounds pretty dangerous. It's definitely best to trade within clubs where at least we know who we're dealing with. Stay safe everyone!
 
Andy was telling me that frags.org was the reason for a bunch of home invasion robberies, so selling amongst ourselves is still dangerous, but that's why they make equalizers, you can drive off, but I can still hit a target at 600 yards.
 
Until our stuff can be fenced or turned pretty easily into cash, I think we're safe.

Even though most of our stuff is really expensive, it's not easy cash for a thief.

So far, about 99% of the people I have dealt with have been great to deal with.

But you know, it's not just craigslist! I'm sure just regular newspaper classifieds and other forums have the same problem.

That's why I usually prefer to meet in a public place (at least at first) when dealing with people I don't know yet.

It's not just about reef stuff that we should worry about. Typically most people see us reefers as having money (when in atcuality we're more broke than most people because of the hobby) and so you run a risk of home robbery or worse.

With Ebay being what it is these days, it is easy enough for a thief to find out the value, and sell/"fence" the equiptment that they stole from you.

The home invasions that Crazyreefer referred to where people that had all of their reef equiptment stolen days after doing a frags.org trade (the police connected the thefts to frags.org).

I have always maintained a certain level of privacy when dealing with anyone that we don't know. And a good practice is to get a call back # for them "in case their plans change", but also to have a way to track them (although with disposable cell phones now, that becomes even harder).

i saw that news story, pretty crazy, its sad that people are trusting and are taken advantage of.

I know of a lot of bad situations with other reefers even here on RC. Did you guys hear about what happend to Hugo Zuniga? Someone came to his house and straight "wet pocketed" his Purple Monster colony. I was scammed by the same guy. After many lengthy threads and a few "moved on" titles the culprit said he wouldn't post on here again. I just noticed he started posting again. I hope this doesn't end bad again.

It's funny you mentioned this. I just reliaze the same thing this morning at the LPS forum. Spoke with Hugo myself sometimes ago and it is a shame thing. Hugo is a nice guy enough and that theft was kind of his good friend. Oh well, I guess you should not trust anybody easily. Spoke with some reefers in Socal, the guy did that not only to Hugo, but also suspected an LFS and some other reefers as well.
