you know what? i was thinking about this after reading your post and arrived at the same conclusion - that the feed could be quite small. i think i will do that, at least eventually (a LOT to get done first). is distance a problem for most RO/DI units? the spot in my basement that makes the most sense to install the RO/DI would be almost on the other side of the house, at least 40 feet from the tank. would that be a problem? i was planning on getting the filter guys unit.
thanks for the tip, i'll have to check that out. your model cracked me up, i was like "floor joists?!" and then immediately realized why that would be important. i'm also a woodworker and it makes my ww projects go so much faster and smoother.
As for the RO. I had an RO pump the output up into my attic, over about 20 feet, and back down into my tank. This was when I was sumpless and still a bit naive to murphy, but it worked mostly. The problems I had were when I forgot to turn the RO off because the unit fed right into the tank.
Now I always feed to a resevoir and pump it into the sump, or in the case of my new setup, gravity feed it into the sump. But that wouldn't work in an up and over scenario, but down over and up would. So if you have access to the floor below the tank you could run the 1/4ID from a tub in another room into the sump on a float. It would constantly drip and keep the same level.
..and as for the floor joists are there because I needed to make sure the tank was supported AND because of the the sump that is not in that photo...It is actually below and to the right of that photo in the basement below the tank so I had to work out drain and return lines. It actually passes over my furnace so it was a bit of a challenge, but it's working nicely.
So far my setup very closely matches the sketchup, although I have a LONG way to go. The tank is running...but the stand and hood aren't built yet.
