hey all

I went to HD today and purchased 2 types of epoxy there. I would like to know if either of them are safe to use on my SPS frags, and for my LR. This is my first time dealing with epoxy, usually I just use any gel super glue that contains cyanoacrylate.

here are the brands and their ingredients

1.)Loctite Marine contains:
epoxy resin, isophorone diamine, benzyl alcohol, and amine curing agents

2.)AquaMend contains:
Epoxy resin, and amine resins

any help that you guys could provide i would appreciate it.:D

Thats what it is. You can get it from HD or Lowes. Maybe it has another name but its the same stuff.

i'm glad this quesiton was asked. i couldn't remember which epoxy from HD or such was the good one and i never remember to ask until i am AT HD!!! go figure. well i'll remember aquamend for the next time i'm there :D

1.)Loctite ??? dont use it!!! raise up your PH very extreme

no it doesn't. It gives off some heat thats it. the 2 part pulmbers epoxy sticks work great.

I tried by myself (my ph gone to 12) and then asked to loctite ......we have the same opinion.

may be the different type?

well just so you guys are updated, i used the AquaMend and everything is doing well so far. i also decided to nix the Loctite (will use it for around the house thing when needed).

the parameters stayed the same, the only thing that happend was the skimmer went crazy, so the next time i will dial the skimmer back to avoid it...but, otherwise good advice.

thanks you guys

so there's no confusion about what it looks like, here's a picture :D

Just don't mistake Plumbers Epoxy for Plumbers Putty. Plumbers Putty will RTN every SPS in your reef. Took me a year to figure this out :(
