Please help save my brain coral!

I picked this coral up a few weeks back. I thought it had very interesting color and it was very cheap, only $20. I brought it home and it looked great. A few weeks have gone by and it has been doing worse and worse. I had it in moderate light on my sand bed under my Iwasaki 15k's and medium to low flow. I have other brain corals right next to it that are doing great. My parameters are pretty stable, all other LPS and SPS are doing well and growing. I use a dosing pump to maintain Cal/Alk and they are around 460/10dKh. My temp is around 76-78, salinity is 35ppt, nitrates are below 10ppm. As I said all my other corals are doing well so I don't think it's a water quality issue. I've included some pics so you can see how it has changed. The first pic was taken 3/9 which was the week I got it and the second pic was taken today, 4/4. Is there any hope for this poor coral?
I've tried feeding it but it doesn't have any feeder tentacles that come out. The only feeding response I have observed is a overall swelling of the tissue. I have placed food on top of the mouths and even placed a container on top to keep the cleanup crew out but it just doesn't seem to eat.

On the underside of the corals skeleton there is a broken off branch, as if this was a single head of a larger colony that was broken off, I'm not sure if that will help with species identification.

eeesh... it's badly bleached.

As for why it has bleached, I can't say. It's possible that it had light shock, the 15K Iwasaki is one of the most potent PAR producers out there.... but it's on the bottom of your tank, so I can't say for sure that would do it.

If you have low/no nitrates, you might consider dosing some form of nitrogen, like amino acids. That's pretty wild shot in the dark, but LPS tend to respond positively to a good source of nitrogen.

I actually dose nitrates into my 10g sps/lps tank, and they love it (I dose around .3-.7 ppm per day and the fuge takes out any remainder at night when the fuge light is out).

What lights was it under when you bought it? Like was mentioned, the bulbs you have are more like a 250 watt bulb.

Did you shade your tank at all?

I didnt do any light acclimating so that is probably what did it. I guess I didnt realize how intense my lighting is. I have moved it to a more shaded spot, do you think it will recover? As I mentioned before spot feeding has seemed to be unsuccesful, I have other LPS that I feed regularly without any problems but this just doesn't seem to grab 'hold of anything.

+1

I wouldn't trash it just yet tho. They have been known to pop off a baby when they look apparently dead. Move it to some shade for sure.

i had a tang take a big bite of mine one night, it got a taste for it after that so i sold the tang. the brain came back it did not swell up for a week. anyway sorry to see yours is not doin so good

I don't think it should be on the substrate....

Really? I have always kept Trachyphyllia on the substrate.

I moved it to the shade yesterday. I hope it makes it, it's a nice brain. Thanks for the help guys. I guess I learned the importance of light acclimating. :(
