please help starfish

this was last night...today there are 1000's of what appear to be red eggs all over it....is this normal???

The red spots are too small to see. What's far more worrying is how bad the one star looks. It seems as if the outer skin has disintegrated in spots and it isn't long for this world. If you have a quarantine tank maybe you should move the star so if it dies your main tank won't be affected.
