Hey folks, I've been looking for lights for my 90 gallon build forever. I've read all about halides, LEDs, and t5s. I've decided to go led with maybe some t5 supplementing or not (that part doesn't matter) basically the cost of hydro and bulb replacements is what brought be to led, and shimmer took me away from t5. I've considered radions gen 2 amd pro, maxspect razor, and kessil a360w.

Things that worry me are
1 color and pop in my fish and corals
2 disco ball effect vs shimmer
3 cost
4 upgradeability
5 strong enough for all coral

As long as I can time the lights during the day to go on and off, sun rise and sun set I'm happy. I don't care about thunderstorms or anything communicating with my computer via program. I've considered everything. I want the light to be suitable for all coral, period

I'm thinking of getting the reefbreeders but I'm worried about optics and color schemes as well as disco ball effects
As well as its reliability because it doesn't have as much hype as most of the big names so there's a lack of reviews

I wanted kessils because of how easy it is to set up, the amazing shimmer and the ability to add an extra one (like the reefbreeder photons) if I expand tank sizes from my 90 gallon. I haven't jumped on them because I'm worried about their ability to make colors pop for my fish and coral like my t5s and you can't set a light schedule without an apex

I was thinking of maxspect but im not sure to pic 10000k or 16000k, what if i get the 16 and its too blue. Or the 10 and its too yellow? I'm worried about the discoball effect (I'm aware of the new white paint to help blend colors on future models) and its not upgradeable, if I get the maxspect 300w and I decide to upgrade to a larger tank then I'm out of luck.

Please folks, I need pictures, testimonials, and advice! My tank is just fowlr and lit up by t5hos. Its 90 gallons. I would prefer a tank mount rather than a ceiling or wall mount. Pictures and success stories or horror stories are much appreciated.

I might get ostrasized for this but, I got two of those cheap full spectrum units from china a couple weeks ago because im on a college budget, they're really bright and a I little to much for lps on fullpower so I beleive sps are totally do able. Depending on your price range I'd recommend them. Some of my softies are a little unhappy but acclimation is a slow process. Look em up on ebay. I got two units for like 275 with free shipping.

How's shimmer vs disco ball effect? And coloration?

The tank mount is what limits you. There aren't many out there.

I'd personally go with an ATI LED powermodule if you have the money. Best light on the market, period. And I've used a lot of different lights over years.

Is there shimmer with that model?? It looks great. I didn't know it was available

The shimmer is amazing with it! Look for the ATI LED powermodule club thread.

I have a short review in there and a review in my build thread in the nano reef section.

That price is 2grand!! That's a little crazy for my taste. I would rather buy an led and use it with my t5s. I have around 1000 dollars for budget

Not sure I know the difference btween disco ball vs shimmer, I will say that the shimmer is awesome but the top of the water has to be moving of course, since the whites and blues are independently controlled the color is up to you. When both are at 100% it looks 20k ish overall im really happy with the coloration.

Zack,
Go with the Reefbreeders unit! Its totally affordable, NO DISCO EFFECT and you can upgrade it later on if you feel so inclined.
I have 2 sets of them on my customers tanks and they are awesome! I just ordered the Photon 32 for my new build.
I actually own a PAR meter and have used these lights. And ATI or German products you purchase your paying for the currency exchange rate, and a boat load of taxes!
Not even close to being worth it in my opinion...........

Good shimmer comes from blended colors where as disco ball effect comes from multiple unblended colors spotting at the bottom. The best shimmer comes from halides and kessil

You own an Aquatium business? And you didn't modify the light layout? Does it have UV and the correct color scheme to grow everything?

I service tanks. No need to modify the layout. It;'s growing corals great! EXCELLENT COLORS!!!!

Do you feel that it can grow sps? And all the colors pop you say? What models would I get for my 90? With the intent to upgrade to a 180 gallon later? And I shpuldnt wait for the supernova?

I bought the ocean revive arctic s026 LEDs and so far my tank is doing great. If you're thinking coral growth and color, the less expensive units can grow corals just as well as they do. In my opinion, purchasing the expensive models is more because I would like their design of the light fixture and added features they include such as dimming, thunderstorm, etc.

The PAR is there and then some! They are real powerhouses! More then the Radions! And you can dim them to whatever level you like.
Yes, they can grow SPS no problem. And yes, the colors pop too. Go with the Photon 32.
Then you can purchase another one later!

Why make a huge thread asking about a bunch of LEDs if you have so much experience and love for the reefbreeder stuff?

I can also say that the disco ball effect is there. I've yet to see an all LED light that doesn't have the disco ball. Kessil is the only one that doesn't but it is different technology in those with their multichip setup.

The mitras supposedly doesn't either but I've seen pictures showing otherwise.

It's just part of the territory with a bunch of point source lights.

I've just read a lot... I've never seen them in person so I'm not sure what I'm buying so that's why I'm asking :)
